Port Douglas – Carnival in the village

The Port Douglas Carnival began in 1993 and was initially designed to celebrate the opening of the tourist season and to market Port Douglas as a vacation destination for national and international visitors.

Carnivale is an award-winning event and is a week-long party that is often described as the most exciting event of the year in Port Douglas.

A Unique Event The Port Douglas Carnival is a celebration that attracts and inspires huge participation from local residents, businesses and industry. Almost the entire community is actively involved: either at an event or as a spectator. As a result, participation grows from year to year and many tourists make a point of returning each year to participate in the celebration of culture, wine and gastronomy.

The launch of the Port Douglas Carnival is the Carnival Masquerade Cocktail which has this year’s theme “Art of the Masquerade”. Held at the historic Sugar Wharf.
