Fun text-to-speech tricks and pranks

With the push of a button, you can set up a computer machine to simulate funny sounds, and funny text-to-speech programs are the perfect device for creating those funny internet sounds.

The jokes generated can be simply funny or shocking, it depends on you and the reaction or emotion you want your brand to experience. The best text-to-speech tricks and pranks take the desired person off guard and give you a chance to gleefully watch the brand go mental trying to figure it out.

Like many jokes, funny text-to-speech tricks and jokes are started out of frustration. It’s during those frustrating moments when trying to fix a computer error that you see an opportunity to poke fun at the malfunction. A good example of this is Spell Catcher. Spell Catcher watches what you are typing in each program, and then corrects or says spelling mistakes as you make them. Spell Catcher runs on Mac and Windows and plays a sound when you make spelling and grammar mistakes. It’s notable for annoying co-workers, especially with the weird sounds the show makes. One can alter the sound it produces to be very loud or very unique / uncomfortable.

Prank calls are also another common type of funny text-to-speech prank. There are many opportunities for pranksters to use text-to-speech programs to make prank calls to their unsuspecting victims. The voices generated can be altered to highlight the effect one would like to send.

Another joke on the text-to-speech platform is making an appointment with a co-worker to teach him a speech recognition program. Then before the meeting, set up your wireless keyboard on your coworker’s computer. Explain that the software needs a sound sample to recognize his voice. As you play your demo, ask a co-worker to write gibberish in a text-to-sound program so that the computer says things completely different than expected. Watch with joy as your target begins to get frustrated, speak louder, and alter your pronunciation as you try to make it work. A great joke if done correctly.

Finally, a basic but fun text-to-speech prank is to simply make your computer “punk” to a co-worker or friend. Just wait until he and the others are around you and then have a pile of junk ready to throw away. Fire up your text-to-speech software and let your computer do the job. I personally did this and it was hilarious …
