Why are more and more people buying water softeners?

Water softeners are systems used to soften water by removing minerals that harden it. Hard water contains high levels of calcium and magnesium. This can cause many problems in a home that people may not be aware of.

Hard water can clog pipes, make it difficult for soap and detergent to dissolve, and leave water spots on surfaces. It causes scale buildup in pipes and water-using appliances, which can make heaters less efficient. This requires more energy to be used, resulting in increased energy costs.

Soap also becomes less effective when used with hard water due to its reaction to form the magnesium or calcium salt of the organic acid in soap. When used to wash the skin, the skin usually becomes dry and itchy from the soap scum. When hair is washed with hard water, it can become sticky and look dull. Some people experience the effects of hard water, while others may be used to the feel of their skin, hair, clothing, and bedding after washing. It is very important to use softened water to protect the home and prolong the life of pipes and appliances from clogging and scale buildup.

Water softeners can be used to treat hard water and minimize its negative effects. They are specific ion exchangers designed to remove positively charged ions. Anti-limescale systems convert calcium ions into stable calcium crystals, which cannot adhere to surfaces, fittings, pipes and other accessories.

Since the crystals are too small, they rinse easily with water. These are neutral, harmless, heat resistant and fully stable and do not stick to heaters and pipes which can cause limescale deposits.

Water treated with a water softener has many benefits compared to hard water that has not been treated:

  • Cleaner, polish for mirrors, glassware, silverware, auto, tile and other plumbing fixtures
  • Smoother, healthier skin and clean, soft hair
  • Less soap curd makes cleanup easier and reduces chores
  • Less soap and shampoo is used due to the rich lather produced by the soap and softened water.
  • Softer clothing as no hard minerals remain in the fabric; clothes last longer while whites stay whiter as there are no more stains caused by hard water
  • Extends the life of water-using appliances, including dishwashers, water heaters, washing machines, coffee makers, and ice makers.
  • More savings on monthly electricity bills and less/no damage to appliances
