Travel and vacation guide for Cancun, Mexico

When you think of Mexico, do you think of small towns? Dry and dusty deserts? Burros and really hot chili? This is an element of Mexico, but this is not what you should expect when you come to Cancun on vacation. Cancun offers a modern escape from the rat race, as a quaint beach resort built on a series of islands linked by bridges. A pinnacle resort in northern Mexico, surrounded by turquoise blue waters, Cancun offers a more cosmopolitan take on life with trendy shopping districts and modern hotels with fantastic modern facilities. Due to Cancun’s location, the weather is generally sunny, but since the resort is built on the edge of the Gulf of Mexico, the heat is not oppressive. The sea complements the warmth of the sun to provide the perfect relaxing climate to make sure any vacation here is one to remember, and not just because of the sunburn.

Cancun is a destination for a more relaxed vacation. Go there to relax or enjoy some world sites. Cancun has some truly ancient sites, such as the Mayan ruins with some truly impressive architecture. The fact that they are still standing shows how civilization has evolved in recent years, as they date back to around 2000 BC. Some of the most favorable Mayan ruins in Cancun are: Cobá, Muyi, Kohunlich, Kinichná, Dzibanché, Oxtankah, Tulum and Chacchoben.

Another great attraction of Cancun are the large sandy beaches. Instead of being made of silicone, Cancun’s beaches are natural and made of finely ground fossils, due to natural effects that have taken place over the past few hundred years. The tides have naturally ground up the fossils as they lap the shore, forming beaches that were not made on purpose, but simply formed over time. A sort of magical sand has been created as it stays cool even under the hottest suns as the heat is not insulated by the fossils but rather dissipated making the sand feel cool underfoot instead of burning which it is often found in some of the most popular tourist spots within places like Spain or France.

The beaches are not only good for their golden qualities, there are also a variety of water sports on offer in Cancun from boat tours and walking tours; boat trips; submarine travel; glass bottom boat tours and fishing trips. Some of the most famous tours that are available at the moment are: Contoy Island Asterix tour, Contoy Island Kolumbus tour, Jungle tour – Sunrise Marina and Fury Catamarans. All of these are island tours that are close to Cancun, except for the catamarans, and tours run to the islands and at sea daily for a variable amount based on group size and group members. In addition to day boat trips and sea tours, there are also proper cruises that offer an excellent selection of food with a themed evening such as pirates and captain hook, which is ideal for any family to spice up a meal.
