Tiles on the countertops

Placing mosaics on kitchen countertops will make it look good. I wanted to try doing this work on my own, however I have been advised not to do it alone. My friends have told me that if I want the work to look really good, I have to hire someone. I thought the mosaic itself would cost me quite a bit, and hiring someone to do it will cost me even more.

I was also told that you should never tile an old Formica countertop or a countertop with a curved edge unless you are installing a backerboard or Wedi type material. The Formica top should be removed and started over with a plywood base or other blank surface if you do not want to add an extra 3/4 inch for the backing plate or Wedi™ material.

So I followed the advice of my friends. I’ve seen homes where the kitchen tiles don’t look great on the countertops. It seemed fine, but there was something wrong. These tops were a DIY project. I’ll shop around, find tiles I can afford, and get some quotes from some handymen who know how to do the job properly and perfectly. This was a very smart plan because I found out that the stove, dishwasher, and sink had to be removed first. I couldn’t imagine doing all of that by myself!

Consider tile over the backsplash. It will look beautiful with the mosaic on the counter matching the mosaic on the backsplash.

Granite tiles are an inexpensive option. He is very attractive and easy to work with. Most granite options come in neutral tones like browns, blacks, blues, grays, and tans. Some may be solid tones, but most are gorgeous combinations like the one I’ve chosen, which is gray with subtle hints of blue throughout.

Glass or glass mosaic is another beautiful option. This may cost a bit more but the colors are bright and lovely! There are so many options with glass. In glass mosaics you can find light tones, mixed colors and even designs such as flowers or works of art.

With so many great options to choose from and having a professional do the job, or at least assist you, you’ll have a great looking kitchen. I can’t wait until mine is finished so I can enjoy that new look.
