The happy month of May: let the color run wild at your perfect wedding

“It’s May, it’s May, the joyous month of May.” There are many metaphors for the month of May, and most of them highlight the explosion of color, scent, and romance. If you’re getting married, why not use those images to enrich your wedding ceremony, reception, and marriage? The Earth would like to encourage you in your search for love.

My father once remarked that when his 80-year-old neighbor fell in love, Horace said, “Sam, it’s just as sweet as when we first fell in love. You feel just as young and happy.” That is what love can do for us. So why not let it work for you and your loved one? Keep your first feeling of love!

  • wedding planning: this is not an old spring. This is the spring in which you are getting married. The world is full of songs and flowers. Go out and enjoy it. Nurture your relationship while planning your wedding. Take a break from wedding planning and stroll through parks and fields. Keep reminding yourself how wonderful love feels. This is such a magical moment, and we often miss it because we are taking care of the details. The more effort you put into creating a romantic relationship, the greater the rewards, at your wedding ceremony and forever.
  • bridal bouquet and flowers: Instead of something monochromatic and demure, let the colors run wild, even if they’re pastels! Traditionally, in Western Europe, people wove tiny baskets and lilies of the valley were offered on May Day. They mean happiness. While they are a demure white, their leaves are a glossy dark green and their scent is anything but delicate. It explodes in the senses. You don’t have to have roses or exotic greenhouse flowers at your wedding. You can have garden flowers to help you!
  • wedding scents: Now the smells are difficult. People are allergic. So you have to be very careful about flowers that have a great scent unless you are outside! But don’t hesitate to use real scents to enrich the experience.
  • wedding ceremony: Use the metaphors of May: violets sweep a lawn in an explosion of colour, the euphoric song of birds. The overwhelming joy you have in your beloved. (Keep practicing, this is a talent you want to perfect!) As your guests to be happy with you. Do the work you need to do beforehand so that when you show up at your wedding, you’re not exhausted and holding on, but rather glowing with the joy of marrying the partner of your dreams.
  • Wedding vows: Why not honor all the seasons in your vows? We know that consistency is important. Winter offers that as a metaphor. But it is worth spending your life to maintain that delicate feeling of joy and ecstasy. If you want a family, now is the season to mention it! Passion is the word of this season!
  • wedding reception: Put flowers on the tables. Fill vases with flowering branches. Use fresh-smelling grass centerpieces. Scatter brightly colored sugar eggs around the table or offer them as a favor. (Remember how colored eggs came about in an effort to remind birds of their responsibilities? People colored them and placed them in furrows in fields so birds could find them.) It’s been co-opted into Easter, but it doesn’t really belong there.
  • wedding food: Serve a fresh vegetable salad with a soft-boiled or hard-boiled egg to celebrate the bounty of spring. Let your location and what’s growing dictate your menu. Decorate your cake with candied violets. Infuse it with delicate aromas and flavors.
  • Make your wedding dance a maypole dance! Now tell me what you think this dance of a long stick with ribbons winding and unwinding around it represents! Have your attendees dance in an outer circle while you dance in an inner circle. Use country dances and songs. Enjoy the beauties outside, even if it means you’re inside watching the beautiful silver rain that will make the gardens bloom.

Here’s the thing: There may be metaphor after metaphor on which you can build your wedding. And since May comes every year, every year those metaphors will stir your hearts with the joy you felt the day you got married. Let the earth help you have the marriage you want.
