Garden Rooms: a perfect choice for your garden

It is a beautiful season that is just beginning here on this side of the planet. The birds are chirping, the sun is shining, and it’s the best time to hang out in the garden, whether it’s grilling out for friends or relaxing with a book and a glass of iced tea.

But if you want to go a bit further, it may be time to really consider upping your game. A custom garden room may be just what you’ve been looking for to turn your faded garden fabulous.

What is a garden room?

A garden room is a single enclosed space building located within your garden. It’s different than a gazebo, which is more of a covered platform or stage, but otherwise remains open to the elements. A garden room usually has four walls, doors and windows, like a mini house.

Unlike a shed, it is more stylish, attractive and comfortable. A garden room is not a place to put your tools. It’s a place to sit back, relax and maybe entertain. Or it could have a number of other purposes, which we’ll cover at the end of this article.

A garden room is the versatile and fully adaptable space of your dreams, in other words.

Can I have a room with a garden in my house?

This question comes up a lot, and the answer is no. A garden room is one that exists in the garden, not in your house. However, you can create a garden-like space within your own that brings all the comforts of a garden into your home. This is usually known as a conservatory room, and it can be a great way to get the beauty of a garden when you have limited outdoor space.

Some ways to create such a room is by using patio furniture, taking advantage of natural light, and filling the room with plants.

Is it expensive to make a garden room?

One of the best parts of having a garden room is that it can be adapted to any style or budget. For some it will be very easy to build a garden room with running water, electricity and several separate sections. For others it will be a matter of customizing an old storage shed to make it more homey and attractive.

Because of this, the cost of garden rooms can vary as much as the cost of houses. Be prepared for anywhere from $800 on the low end to $40,000 on the high end. It depends on what you want to get out of it.

Examples of beautifully designed garden rooms to inspire you

One of the best ways to see the potential of these garden rooms is to look at what others have managed to create. Here are some great examples that are sure to inspire you to start designing your own.

  • Garden Office – One of the main reasons people choose to create a garden room is to create an office space that doesn’t take up too much space for your family. It’s also a nice place to work, outdoors with the doors wide open. This is an example of a great outdoor office layout complete with a place to take a relaxing break.
  • Exercise Room and Patio – Don’t like going to the gym? Do you want to be able to run when it’s cold outside or raining? So why not create an exercise room like these people did? They even set up a platform so that after a workout they can sit in the shade, have a drink and feel the satisfaction of their achievement. This is an excellent example of the use of space for a practical purpose that might not have been possible without the structure.
  • Music Study: Does your teen have a band? Are you tired of hearing the sound of the drums and the screeching of the guitar every day? You still want to support their talents and dreams, so why not turn them into your own studio? They can get the practice they need, and you can get some peace and quiet.
  • Guest House – Why force the people staying with you to sleep on a lumpy sofa? You can create a beautiful guest house like these people did and give your visitors a place to sleep comfortably. This is one of the more expensive options, but it’s great if you have the space and budget for it. It doesn’t have to be a fully functional home with running water, either. They can use the main house for plumbing needs or to get food. Just provide a bed and a quiet place for them to have some privacy.
  • Bike rack – This is a really cool example of what you can do on a small scale and still be very functional. Using reclaimed wood, this small garden room features a place to relax, an interior section, and side storage to fit two or more bikes, even on a wall hook. Ideal for placing any items you are concerned about being stolen, such as bicycles, the doors on this design snap shut and lock to keep them secure.
  • College Crash Pad – Why have your child live in a cramped dorm room when you can give them a place of their own? Or why not offer an option for a struggling student looking for a place to rent? There is no doubt that a tenant between the ages of 15 and 20 is staying in this particular garden room.
  • Home Gym – You saw the exercise room, but this is a complete home gym. The way the front opens provides plenty of ventilation to keep things cool while you work up a sweat.
  • House extension – Finally, we have an option for those who do not have a lot of space and do not want a free-standing structure. They built it right outside the house!
