The best inspiration for color is nature. I love how I feel in nature, so why wouldn’t I want to use it as inspiration for the colors in my home? This works well, especially when you want to match colors throughout your home.
You can find inspiration pretty much anywhere, the desert, the mountains, or even a park. You will find it difficult to go wrong when you follow the example of nature. I was on vacation looking at the colors around me, it was amazing. It had the deep greens in the Norfolk pines, which changed to a lighter green as you climbed up and reached the tips of the branches. Right there before my eyes a complete color combination for any room in my home.
As I looked past the trees, I saw the ocean and the beach before me. There was another whole color palette waiting for her to investigate. The light colors of the sand, the white of the crashing waves, the turquoise of the water as my eye drifted away, changing to a beautiful light blue and finally moving on to a deep dark rich blue. An entire color palette was spread out in front of me.
You can use the same process with flowers, birds, and butterflies. Watch the sky from morning to night, a full color palette happening as the day begins and ends. Look carefully at how nature puts colors together and then use these combinations in your home.
Once you’ve found your inspiration place or item, start taking pictures. Take many photos of the same place, from different angles, if you can at different times of the day. Make the images larger and choose the colors that bring you the most joy and work best in your home. You can take the image and colors to your local paint store and they will find the exact color match. What a way to bring color into your home and have an adventure along the way.
