maps

Bridge

A map set on an Imperial Star Destroyer dominating other Destroyer ships and the Death Star. The map is set on two levels.

hoth

The Rebel Base from The Empire Strikes Back. A Snow Speeder is docked in the middle of a hangar which is the center point of the map. There are a series of crates surrounding the map and some raised platforms along the outer perimeter.

substantive IV

Set on the CR90 corvette ship from Episode IV, the map is set in two different levels. There’s a good mix of closed-off corridor-based combat and open-view sniper points. There is an upper level that provides a respite from any fighting downstairs. Probably the best map in the game along with Cloud City Tower.

Cloud City Chamber

Han Solo’s Frozen in Carbonite body provides the centerpiece of this map. The Freezing Chamber is the lowest level on this map with a circular level surrounding it. There are a couple of raised sheltered platforms that provide safe firing positions. Generally open based combat.

Cloud CityTower

One of the best maps. Located on several different levels, all outdoors. Falling down Luke-style in Episode V lands you on the Millennium Falcon at the bottom of the map where you can continue the battle if you wish!

Tatooine

A Land Speeder rests on the sandy plain outside the Tatooine buildings. Most of the map takes place indoors, with the ground floor being the main location for battle. There is certainly no place for droids!

Shed

A large map set over various levels on what appears to be the Death Star. A Tie-Fighter is the centerpiece of the map and beyond it you can see deep space…

Library

A relatively bland ‘x’ shaped map set over two levels. Library bookcases provide cover for shots downstairs. Certainly not the best map.

positive and negative

positives

From the makers of the brilliant Delete app

It’s free. Given the number of games available on the iTunes Store that you have to buy and that turn out to be sub-standard, a free game should always be considered a very positive thing. I can’t stress how, despite some notable flaws, you should still get this game considering that a) it’s free and b) overall it’s a satisfying game to play, especially for Star Wars (and Eliminate) fans.

Familiar Star Wars locations from the original trilogy; Bridge, Hoth, Tantive IV, Cloud City Chamber, Cloud City Tower, and Tatooine

The maps are varied enough in their content to provide for different types of combat. There are indoor and outdoor sections, as well as claustrophobic corridors, open spaces, and enclosed sniper nests.

Since there are four players on each map at once, the maps are the correct size

The Imperial Academy training theme will appeal to Star Wars fans, as will the subtle references on the maps to movie props.

Can switch to left-handed control system for left-handed people

Lots of prizes to collect that require a lot of game time and skill.

The game has leaderboards based on galactic skill rating, academy matches won, and player deaths.

You can practice offline against Bots in the same arenas as online to practice

Compared to the current stock of apps, the graphics, while not the best, certainly hold their own.

You can play as Luke, Han, Boba Fett and others once you get enough credit to do so.

Leveling up leads to unlocking more weapons/armor

There always seems to be someone in a game or waiting to play, and it doesn’t take long to get into a game.

negatives

It would be nice to have as many maps as Eliminate (although this may happen in the future with DLC)

I had trouble downloading new content; this took several tries before it was successful

Looking and shooting are often merged into one control

It would have been nice to hear the Star Wars themes in the game, rather than just the sound effects of blasters and Stormtrooper moans.

The sound effects are poor. You’ll get tired of hearing Stormtroopers scream while being attacked.

More players in the game and bigger maps combined would have been an improvement

More game modes to choose from, such as capture the flag, attack and defend, would have given the game more variety and longevity.
