Feng Shui and the Bedroom – Part 1 – Romance, the Third ‘R’ of the Bedroom

Feng shui is an ancient Chinese art used for thousands of years to evaluate and choose the most favorable location and shape to build a house. Once a home is located and built, there are feng shui principles for the most beneficial way to arrange furniture and décor. The basic philosophy of feng shui holds: If a home is in a harmonious environment and is arranged in a harmonious manner, the inhabitants of that home will reflect that harmony and live more harmonious lives. Since we spend at least a third of our day in the bedroom, the bedroom is the most important room of all to apply feng shui.

When I began my feng shui studies, many teachers mentioned the three R’s of the bedroom: rest, rejuvenation, and romance. Of course, rest and rejuvenation are the first consideration. When a relationship is new (a year or two), the newness is like an aphrodisiac. As my mother used to say, “When you’re in love, even a park bench is wide enough. After the novelty wears off, even a king-size bed may not be big enough.”

The goal is privacy
In fact, king-size beds and extra-large rooms tend to diminish the feeling of privacy. Just as a bed that is too small or placed against a wall inhibits free movement and feelings of independence. Keep this in mind when designing your romantic setting. The bed should be in proportion to the room with adequate space to move around it. In addition to rest and rejuvenation, the bedroom should also be a place for privacy.

The problem of the King Size bed
The real problem with most king-size beds is the two box springs under the mattress that tilt each partner away from the center. A similar feeling of splitting that encourages separation is experienced if there is an exposed beam running lengthwise directly over the bed.

If you need to have a king size bed, replace the double box spring with a wooden platform. Similarly, if there is a beam above the bed, try repositioning the bed below the beam or cover the beam with fabric. Some feng shui authorities say that placing a large sheet over double bed frames can symbolize unification. Regardless of the size of the bed, if you want to bring the passion back into the relationship, try the feng shui technique of placing a large red cloth under the mattress.

Bring life to the bedroom, but not too lively
When designing your bedroom, look at the symbolism of wall hangings and tabletop items. All art and art objects must be treated with the same consideration.

Avoid negative images like a storm-tossed boat adrift on a misty ocean or out-of-place scenes like circus clowns and acrobats. Use images that establish an intimate atmosphere.

“Hello mom hello dad”
Family photos on your side table, belong in a family room or just not in front of the bed, so you or your partner won’t open your eyes after a passionate moment, see your parents’ photos and think: “Hello mom . Hello”. dad.” Do you really want your whole family to sit at your end table to watch you make love?

Soothing colors with a hint of passion
Some rooms are too white like you are trying to keep the magic of your wedding night. White is a color of purity. As the dominant color in the bedroom it is too sterile and lifeless. Therefore, white is also considered the color of death.

However, with white as a backdrop, colored decorations become more vibrant. Creative use of color for curtains, lampshades, cushions on the bed, or a colorful throw draped over the arm of a chair would bring life energy (ch’i) to any size room. Of course you don’t want the room to be too lively or you will miss out on rest and privacy.

If you add color to the walls, make sure they are calming colors and those colors that add warmth. The ceilings are often painted white, especially in contrast to the colored paint on the walls to give a sense of height. A relatively low ceiling will appear even taller when crown molding is added. Just don’t forget to add a red cushion or two, or one to keep the passion alive and well.

Caution with the mirror
Great mirror in a bedroom, either hung on a wall or used as sliding closet doors. it can also detract from a potentially peaceful and intimate environment. Large mirrors, or too many mirrors, bounce light and make a quiet room feel too busy. Mirrors also multiply images and can make a bedroom feel crowded, especially when placed at the foot of the bed. Mirrors at the foot of the bed, in addition to disturbing sleep, can lead to continual arguments and complaints over petty issues as they sit looking at themselves and “seeing” what is wrong.

The Wall of Visions and Dreams
In fact, consider whatever you are looking at will be what inspires you to speak and that whatever is on that wall is actually the message of the relationship. If it’s a TV, then you’ll find yourself talking about “What’s on TV tonight, dear?” If it is a beautiful and romantic art arrangement, then you will talk softly with each other and talk about your activities for the day and your plans for the future. Perhaps it would help to think of the wall opposite you as a large canvas to represent your visions and dreams.

On the other hand, consider if the person on one side of the bed is looking straight ahead through the open bathroom door, and the person on the other side of the bed is looking at the image of a leaping dolphin at sunrise. He’s one of you saying, “Honey, we’re going to Tahiti this year.” While the other person, the one watching in the bathroom, says, “Shit, we can’t spend the money. And by the way, did you remember to do this and did you remember to do that…” case what you see is what you get, that is, what you are inspired to talk about.

header equality
Also test if both have equality on each side of the bed? Does each have enough room to stand and walk comfortably next to the bed? Or are any of you blocked by obstacles, tripping over clutter, avoiding sharp edges on a dresser or cabinet? Starting or ending a day with these seemingly easy-to-accommodate minor irritations inevitably expresses itself as picky complaints and inexplicably hostile reactions to insignificant situations. All of which result in distractions from rest, rejuvenation, and romance.

The bagua template
With the growing interest in feng shui books and classes, many people have heard of the Ba-gua Template, which is a way of dividing a house or room using an eight-sided diagram (ba means eight; gua , means sides). . The Ba-gua Template assigns one of the Eight Aspirations to an area of the house, property, or room. It is a way of assessing how we unconsciously project meaning to various areas of the house based on the idea that the back of the house is safer than the front, the left side reflecting the more aggressive left side of our brain, while Like the right side of home, it reflects the more passive and sensitive right side of the brain.

relationship corner
The side of the house that relates to personal relationships can be assessed by what is located in the far right corner of the house or room based on the orientation from the wall on which the front door is located. To define this area, draw a nine-square tic-tac-toe board on the floor plan of the house or in any specific room.

The most used rooms are of prime importance. Assessing the Relationship Corner of the home would be second in importance. If you live on property, you can also draw nine boxes and assess what is in each area.

No one gets 100% perfect Feng Shui
Now remember, no one gets 100% perfect feng shui. So if there is a weakness in one of the important Relationship Corners, perhaps it can be offset by strength in one of the other Relationship Corners. Sort of like acupuncture, sticking one needle in the ear and another there, and getting an overall positive result. But the first step is to determine what problems there may be, and then decide on a strategy to remedy the situation.

What is your Feng Shui message?
Now analyze what elements or images are in the Gua Relationship of your home and each room. Are these elements or images positive or negative? If they are negative, you are probably in a difficult relationship or not in a relationship at all. For example, is this area of the house missing? Is this where you have a kitty litter box, trash can, or dirty laundry? Is it possible that your relationships are flushing down the toilet? Is there a single female or male image in this area? Is there nothing in these areas? If the answer is “yes” to any of these questions, do everything you can to change the situation.

If the images are positive, you are probably in a successful, romantic, and mutually supportive relationship. Whether positive or negative, you can enhance Relationship Gua with positive symbolism. Use intimate colors like pinks and pastels, use double images like two ducks, two candlesticks or two angels entwined in love. If this corner of the house is missing, consider what you could put in the outside area that would ‘fill’ the space. How about a birdbath with two lovebirds perched on the edge, a wicker bench for two, or a flower garden?

Energize with Prayer and Affirmation
To further reinforce any of your physical changes, consider further activating your positive enhancements with prayers and affirmations. By folding our hands together in prayer (mudra), reciting prayerful affirmations (mantra), and quieting the mind to “see” the results (visualization), we tune our body, mind, and spirit. In this way, we plant the ‘seed’, we ‘water’ it, and then, while visualizing the results, we begin the process of manifesting our Aspirations. (See article How Feng Shui Magic Works.)

Following this course of action will strengthen your existing personal relationships or attract a partner so that you too can enjoy romance in your life.
