Clear the clutter in the main closet

“The woman or the man on top of the mountain did not fall there.”

I laughed when I first read this and then read it again. But isn’t this the truth? Reaching a goal or changing for the better requires effort. Many of us have problems with clutter in our main closets. But there are ways to eliminate clutter to make our lives easier. Here are some great tips for getting rid of closet clutter.

Get everything on the floor out of your closet. Pick up and remove everything from the floor of your closet. Most likely, there are many lost pairs of shoes and boxes living there.

Now wear only the shoes you wear. Get rid of the old ones that don’t match anything you wear now. Get rid of worn out shoes with damaged toes or take them to a repair shop. But don’t keep them in your closet again. They go in the BE (Belongs Elsewhere) basket if they go to the repairman or in the trash if no one can use them.

Another tip for things on the closet floor: As a professional organizer, I often find gifts stuffed in closets. And many times the owner is surprised that he bought the gift and is delighted to have found it. I recommend putting all the gifts he intends to give in one place in your home. Closet is fine if there is space. Put them in a container with a lid and place it where you can easily access it.

It can be in a container that is rolled up under the bed or in a container that is placed in the back of the closet, either on a shelf or on the floor. Or put it in a completely different room in a container on a shelf. When you need a gift, it’s so nice not to have to rush to the store or search the house for what you know you bought but can’t find. And it certainly makes decluttering much easier when things are contained and you know where to find them.

Have you heard the expression “The more you have, the less you see”? This is true throughout the house and it certainly is true in the closet in the master bedroom. When clothes are stuck, it’s hard to see what you have.

We now have our floor tidy and organized, so we’re going to move on to the closet rod in our quest to get rid of clutter. Take out everything that is on the rod. If you share a closet with someone else, only do one side at a time; I suggest you do your side first. It may be a chore to do this, but trust me it’s worth it. So you can see how much space you have and nothing can hide from you.

As you put your clothes back, look at each one and assess whether you like it, wear it, fit well, clean, or need repair? Put back only the clothes you wear. Put them back into categories. All blouses together, casual tops, dress tops, and also divided by long or short sleeves. Put all the pants together, dresses together and suits.

Get rid of the wire hangers and also the plastic ones. My preference is to use wooden hangers because they look beautiful and give the clothes space so they don’t wrinkle as much. You don’t have to buy them all at once, do this little by little and before you know it you will have all the beautiful hangers. IKEA is the most reasonably priced that I know of, but I’ve seen them at Home Depot, Target, and other variety stores that aren’t really expensive.

When you’re getting rid of the clutter in your closet, take it one step at a time by doing the floor first, then the clothes on the rod, then on the rack and soon you’ll be singing the praises of your closet and you’ll be glad you did. get rid of a lot of clutter.
