Building your car a subwoofer box

You can increase the ability of your car interior to produce much better music by getting some subwoofers. Along with that, you must have some subwoofer boxes to go along with that. You see, subwoofer enclosures can be sealed, ported, or band-passed. And these three are just some of the styles that these boxes could have.

Check with the manufacturer or retailer of your subwoofers first. Ask them about the dimensions of the box. Then also ask them if the given dimensions are inside or outside. The interior dimensions would have to include the ¾-inch thickness of the wood. On the other hand, for the external dimensions, the manufacturer has already taken it into account.

To get started, you should have these tools and materials, as you would use them as you go along with this task: ¾-inch medium-density fiberboard, jigsaw, router, power drill, downward spiral, or a twist drill, a ¾-inch drill bit, a file, some sandpaper, a razor blade or scalpel, some spray glue, a tape measure, a pencil, some screws, silicone, a solder , a soldering gun, a calculator, some scratch paper, and your car mat.

Begin the building process by using your pencil and tape measure to trace the enclosure patterns onto the fiberboard. Trace the patterns for all six sides of the box. Also add a center divider to the inside of the box that would serve as a separation between the two speakers. Cut out these patterns with the jigsaw.

Take the pattern for the top of the subwoofer box. Use the subwoofer grill frame and a pencil to trace the outside and inside of the subwoofer. Do this at the location on the board where you would like to place your speakers. Use the router with a ¾-inch bit and cut 3/8-inch deep. Do this between the inner and outer circle, and this area would be where the speaker frame will mount.

Cut the holes for the speakers with the jigsaw. Later, use a file to smooth the edges. You can also use sandpaper to smooth the area. Next, cut two-inch round holes. Do this on each of the side panels. These holes will be filled with the connectors for the speaker cables.

Using screws, assemble the box. Seal the joints with silicone. This is to ensure that air does not escape. Leave the front panel off first. Then spray glue on the outside of the box as well as the back of the rug. Wrap the rug tightly in the box. Lay some rug on the top panel. Using a razor blade or scalpel, cut vertical, horizontal, and angled star lines into the carpet. Next, cut the carpet covering the connector holes.

Attach the connectors and thread them through the holes. Make sure both pin terminals are inside the box. Then screw on the connectors. Seal around them with silicone. Solder the speaker wires to the speaker and to the connector. Also solder the positive wire to the positive speaker lead. Do the same with the negative ends. After everything is done, put the front panel on the box and screw it on. Push the speakers into the star pattern cut out in the carpet that covers the speaker holes on the front panel. Now you can install the box inside your car and enjoy music.
