An anonymous complaint was received by the Captain of the ship; that 2 chief petty officers were indulging in an adulterous sexual relationship with a junior petty officer.

It was also alleged that 4 other NCOs were on top of things. An investigation was ordered and the facts came to light. The investigation revealed that 2 chief petty officers were having a sexual relationship with a young woman who was on board the ship. She was a junior petty officer.

The investigation also noted that 4 senior NCOs were aware of this relationship. Unfortunately, they did not report it to their superior officer. This is a crime typified in article 92 of the Unified Military Code. Article 92 clearly states that failure to notify fraternization between the sexes on board a warship or establishment is an offence. Two chief petty officers received administrative sanctions for engaging in inappropriate sexual relations with a junior petty officer. Four NCOs were penalized for not reporting the incident despite being aware of it.

There was a time when there were no women in the active duty Navy; but now almost 25% of the naval force is made up of women and many of them serve on warships and submarines. This puts them in touch who serves the sailors.

It is inevitable that such incidents occur. The navy is already dealing with the scandal of nude photos of female colleagues. Nude photos were circulating on Facebook on a secret page with a keyword. The magnitude of the problem had shocked the Naval Command.

Nearly 30,000 Marines and Marine Corps Veterans were members of this page. There was another case of a pilot who was taking photography and video of enlisted women in locker rooms and bathrooms. The pilot was charged with various crimes under the unified military code and civil laws. The Navy spokesman has made it clear that the Navy cannot tolerate fraternization aboard warships. He is right, since such a relationship distracts from the main duty. But it should be noted that such incidents can never be completely avoided. They will keep happening over and over again, for the simple reason that men and women are attracted to each other.
