KALPVRIKSH – THE WISH TREE is a magical, inspiring and extremely entertaining story of five children at a hill station who come together to save their ‘wish tree’ (KALPVRIKSH) from being cut down by vested interests. The film is extremely lively, entertaining, endearing and fascinating, so the underlying message to protect trees and the environment is conveyed perfectly …

Twelve-year-old Nikita is overweight and headstrong. When overeating becomes an obsession, not only does your life at school and home spiral out of control, but your dream of one day becoming a ‘rock star’ seems nearly impossible. Nikita’s life is mysteriously ordered with four others:

Guriqbal Singh, Nikita’s classmate and sole heir to the currently dilapidated business of “Nanak Paneer (cottage cheese) House”, has a theft problem, which is about to take on dangerous dimensions. Faced with financial insecurities that are more anticipated than real and an even more insecure father who is gradually turning alcoholic, Guriqbal must ‘collect’ and ‘store’ what he can to protect the well-being and future of his family. His treasure box is buried deep in the woods behind the train tracks.

Sean, a ‘dyslexic’, is an eleven-year-old boy. Sean’s constant struggle with reading and speaking makes him the “butt” of all jokes and relentless public humiliation at the hands of his fellow superiors, within the unforgiving walls of his classroom. And to make matters worse, while at home, Sean must also experience the trauma of separating the parents, who are on the verge of an official breakup. The only comforting source is ‘Pari’, Sean’s beloved pet, his lemon-yellow lovebird and perhaps one day, the gift of ‘free speech’. Through Sean’s eyes, the world lends itself to a strangely dazzling visual possibility … and when he picks up the brush, the canvas leaves people in awe of its genius.

Ten-year-old Fatima Khanam is obsessed with Bollywood, especially superstar ‘Shah Rukh Khan’. Fatima, a ‘star’ in her own right, is preparing for her ‘star destiny’, which will soon come to her. She spends the day as if an imaginary camera is filming her at all times, even while brushing her teeth! Fatima manages to skip school without a problem to watch movies in the movie theater, until the season of ‘parent-teacher meetings’ spoils everything and Fatima’s father, Khwaja Sheikh, is alarmed by her shocking performance in exams. schoolchildren and also for their acts of disappearance from school. .

This season also spells doom for Nikita, Sean and Guriqbal, who are getting into deeper trouble and misfortune. In a world that oscillates between angry parents, punishments, disapproving neighbors, and a stressful school life, her world is rapidly falling apart and her dreams drift away in conflict with her reality.

Last but not least is Dhanua, a witty and elegant eleven-year-old who works at the dhaba (local restaurant) in Paltan Bazaar. With his unshakable faith in the muscular ‘Hanumaan ji’ (the Indian monkey god and mythological superhero), he must fight the tests of time against his abusive and tough dhaba owner ‘Shankar dada’. Dhanua would love to go to school and make friends with other children, who seem to have perfect lives, but right now he must earn his food day by day and protect himself from being bullied and exploited by other older and stronger boys who work in the school. dhaba, Jaikishen and Kaalia.

Life is hard. Still, a miracle awaits Dhanua and the messy lives of Nikita, Sean, Guriqbal and Fatima …

On the school’s annual sports day, Nikita wins first prize in the consecutive race. But when some of the kids tease her and announce that she has only won by cheating, this is the breaking point for Nikita. The most painful day of her life is about to turn into the most magical day of Nikita’s life.

Nikita’s mysterious old friend (who lives in a green house in the forest) tells her the magical story of ‘Kalpvriksh’ or ‘The Wish Trees’ that have existed for thousands of years. “They’re still out there and the only unfortunate reason they haven’t been discovered in recent times is because no one believes in them anymore, the wishing trees are dying,” he tells Nikita.

In the moments that follow, Nikita instinctively runs to her secret place where she always sits when she is sad. He stands in front of an old gnarled tree and speaks to it as if he is listening. In the days that follow, Nikita’s life begins to change dramatically. She does not steal food from the kitchen at night and through a series of incidents, the school children not only stop making fun of her but look at her with renewed respect and admiration. The humiliation begins to give way to a feeling of self-worth and pride.

Nikita has discovered her Wish Tree and must share her magic with Sean, Guriqbal, Fatima, and Dhanua. According to Nikita’s old mystical friend in the forest, the powers of the wish tree grow as more and more people believe in it. But the secret should be shared only with those who really believe in it.

Sean’s speech is miraculously clearing up since his angry encounter with the Wish Tree. At some point you must muster the confidence to express your love for Nikita.

Fatima is punished by her father. One day, when a television news flash reports that superstar Shah Rukh Khan is being flown to London for surgery, her fantasy about him begins to unravel. It’s real, you can get sick. In that moment of crisis, he can only get close to the Wishing Tree.

On the other hand, with the pure faith of children, the wish tree comes to life after a thousand years of sleep. It is celebrating life. It is sprouting new leaves and it also has pretty white flowers.

The special thing about the tree is that it is making your wishes come true. His magic works its way through the lives of these children, and their lives are changing rapidly.

But even as the children spend more and more time with their new friend, some rumors that the tree is evil are brewing in the city. ‘Pannalal’, the crafty contractor / lumberjack is responsible for this.

Kids love their wish tree, but the true test of friendship is yet to come.

The wishing tree is going to be cut down and the whole town has gathered to witness this. Five ax men sharpen their axes and walk towards the tree. The townspeople stare in amazement, curious to see what is to come. And then something happens … something that no one has witnessed before. This may not be seen for a thousand years …

This is a triumphant story of five children, with their complex problems, who despite being dismissed by the world around them, make an extraordinary difference by bravely following their instincts, fiercely protecting and actually saving their wishing tree against the wind. and tide. Disability and difficulty become the stepping stone to becoming something extraordinary.

They make national news and the world must now see them with a difference. The wishing tree has regained all its powers and has come back to life with a bang. Interestingly, every wish tree in the world is celebrating … Superstar Shah Rukh Khan celebrates a timeless message with children …

… And the KALPVRIKSH pleads … “I am just a wish tree that grants what is asked. While all the trees in the world give everything for life on earth without being asked.” He thanks everyone for saving him from logging and pleads with them to make sure that a tree is not cut down anywhere, anywhere in the world. It also calls on all children to make sure they plant their own ‘wish trees’ and see their wishes come true.

Somewhere in another corner of the world, an African American girl curiously runs her hands through the bark of a very old twisted tree … could this be her wish tree?

After all, science has its limitations … faith doesn’t !!
