Have you ever considered a traveling dinner?

A traveling dinner is not the usual image that comes to mind when people think of the words “dinner”. By roaming, I mean not just staying in one place, but going from one private place to another, maybe a course in each? Perhaps the first course in a garden and then indoors for the main course and dessert?

When you hear the words “dinner,” most people picture a small group of guests eating at the host’s house, a dinner party. A relaxed meeting in one place.

But it does not have to be like that; in fact, I recommend that you try a totally different dining experience with your friends, neighbors, colleagues or acquaintances. Or anyone important enough to you who you would like to host a dinner with.

It’s not that conventional dinners aren’t fun, they’re typical. Getting around can add an element of excitement, especially if you don’t have to move too much to the next location (imagine hiring a limo to take you from one to the other and down a somewhat scenic route)! But hey, a walk is just as good! By sharing the dinner prep with your guests, you take the pressure off the single cook – a group of friends can share the food, but make the experience amazing. A big dinner can cost a lot, so you can share the costs, too.

A traveling dinner is really a great idea if you want a great meal of three courses or more … I’ll tell you a bit about my last experience …

I have some friends who like to pamper their guests as much as I do. So, I reached out to two of our friends who live nearby and suggested that we all collaborate and organize a traveling dinner. We were all within walking distance of each other, so we didn’t have to worry about driving under the influence or anything like that. The date was set and we decided who would host the entree at their home, who would host the main course, and who would host the dessert.

It was a magnificent evening, the actual experience was the highlight of the dinner.

When we arrived at our friend’s house for the entree, we were greeted with refreshing cocktails and a light platter of canapes. We sat down and ate a wonderful entree and a side drink. We didn’t rush, we had plenty of time.

We moved to my house through the main one. Upon arriving at our house, I had all the candles set and ready to be lit and I chose the background music that would set the mood even more. It was the Buddha Bar CD. He had been to the Buddha Bar in Paris. for dinner and buy their CDs as a souvenir … this was the kind of music I wanted to play as I enjoyed my meal in Paris so much listening to this and it also brought back wonderful memories.

Of course, I had prepared a meal ahead of time, and upon arrival I was able to put the finishing touches on the dish quickly and dress the salad to be delicious, crisp, and fresh. We had bought a bottle of Pinot Gris wine to pair with the fish dish she had prepared.

We ate, laughed and chatted. Even though we knew dessert was at our other friend’s house, the whole experience was just thrilling … and because we knew from the beginning what our plans were, we were all prepared for dinner to involve moving.

When we thought it was the right time, we moved to the final destination where our other friend had rethought and prepared a lot on the right dessert for the occasion. I had made a baked dessert and all I had to do was pop it in the oven while we settled into the new surroundings. Once again, the atmosphere had been set with lighting and the table was beautifully set with flower arrangements, dessert wine glasses, and the silverware and plates for our pudding. We entered the new environment and soon the dessert was ready to be served. It was really sensational …

The entire dinner lasted a few hours but of course it flew and before we knew it, it was finished.

But not forgotten!
