A high-end wood product requires constant care, so you should clean your furniture frequently. Most wood furniture, especially curio cabinets, is described by its natural markings, colors, and the character of the grain. This is what makes wooden furniture so rare and beautiful. To keep wood looking beautiful, it’s important to keep the temperature inside your home at a moderate humidity level.
These cabinets often store our most prized possessions and artifacts. Properly cleaning and protecting your cabinet of curiosities doesn’t have to be a complex or time-consuming task. Dust is the number one cause of a messy cabinet of curiosities. Containing the great dust beast will ensure a clean cabinet of curiosities.
Things you should have:
- Furniture polish spray
- clean cloth to remove dust
- Glass Cleaner
- Paper towels
The main thing you need to do is get rid of the objects in the cabinet of curiosities, or if you have a lot of time, you can clean around the objects.
The next step is to spray the furniture polish on a clean cloth. When cleaning wood, you must be sure to use only dusting agents approved for oak wood. It is recommended to use a good agent that is not silicone or wax. Not only will this remove dust from your oak curiosity, it will also eradicate fingerprints. The cloth should be of the microfiber type. This will help remove dust as well as polish and clean the wood at the same time.
The third step is that even if you don’t use a microfiber cloth, you should use a clean, soft, lint-free cloth. Be sure to completely dry the wood after dusting, as moisture can damage the oak curio cabinet.
The next step is to clean the wood from the curio cabinet; you should start on the inside of the cabinet, with the dusting cloth. If you decide not to dispose of your items, move them to the side or pick them up while dusting under and around them. Clean in a gentle, rubbing motion, using more furniture spray if necessary.
The fifth step is to polish the exterior wood of the cabinet by rubbing in a rounded motion with the dusting cloth and furniture polish spray. Keep the wood moist with the spray so the cloth glides over the wood without abrasion.
The next step is to spray window cleaner on the glass doors (and glass shelves, if your curious) and use the paper towels to clean, in a rounding motion, the inside and outside of the glass.
The last step is to dry the glass with clean paper towels, wiping the glass in a back and forth motion. Check to make sure all wood is dust free and all glass is free of smudges and fingerprints before storing cleaning supplies. Throw away used paper towels.
